Luminous: A Harmonious Blend of Light and Sound

Derived from the natural world, Luminous mimics the sky's ability to distribute light across a large surface, creating a desirable ambient light. Similarly, its sound system transmits sound in multi-layer levels and from all directions, just as it occurs in nature. This combination of light and sound in a single product aims to evoke emotions and create a new experience for the users.

What sets Luminous apart from other designs is its dual functionality. As a pendant light, it provides indirect lighting, offering a soft, uniform, and low-contrast light that prevents glare and vision problems. Simultaneously, its sound system, positioned above the listener's head, creates a dome-shaped surround sound in the room, eliminating the need for wiring and installing multiple speakers.

The technology behind Luminous is equally impressive. It uses LED light sources along with an acrylic diffuser and is equipped with an Ambient Light Sensor that adjusts the brightness of the LEDs based on the room's ambient light level. The sound system consists of a sound processor and 20 small speakers that emit sound in separate channels with different output intensity, in a 360-degree radius and at different firing angles, creating various real and virtual sound sources in the room.

Luminous can be produced in different sizes with various light and sound output power, catering to different user groups. The design also includes a Bluetooth Audio Adapter, allowing users to interact with the lighting and sound unit and stream sound and music from a TV, game console, microphone, memory stick, or Blu-ray player wirelessly.

The design process for Luminous, which took place from April to September 2018 in Tehran, Iran, was not without its challenges. The most significant issue was striking a balance between the product's form and functions. More than 20 samples were generated and evaluated to find the optimum solution, resulting in a product that is not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing and compatible with different environments.

In conclusion, Luminous is a testament to the power of innovative design, successfully merging light and sound to create a unique user experience. Its recognition with the Silver A' Design Award is a fitting tribute to its outstanding design and innovation. Luminous is a shining example of how design can evoke emotion, enhance our living spaces, and transform our experiences.
